2002 News "AMERICAN
RHAPSODY" DEBUTS! Don't
miss the May 18 premiere performance of Eugenie Rocherolle's
composition, "American Rhapsody," for violin, cello and piano,
written in commemoration of Wilton's Bicentennial Celebration. Rocherolle, a nationally recognized composer, is a Wilton
resident. The
"Rhapsody" will be performed by Richard and Lois Errante and Kyong Hee Cho, who will also
perform Beethoven's "Trio in C Minor" and Brahms "Trio in B
Major". The
May 18th concert, sponsored by the Wilton Arts Council, begins at 8:00 PM, St.
Matthews Church, Wilton. Admission is
free. SURF IT, LOVE IT, BUY IT! The
very successful art exhibit, "Colors and Curves", recently held at
Wilton's Zellner Gallery, is now on cyberview at
www.wiltonarts.org. The site also
captures the Gala Artists' Reception attended by the artists and about 150 art
fans on April 26. On hand was gallery designer and developer Chip Zellner, who
spoke eloquently about the artists and art exhibited. Eight
paintings received awards in The Wilton Art Council's 4th Annual Art
Exhibition: Best of Show: "Mudge
Pond, Sharon, CT" by Jen Shelley, Wilton; First Place: "Satyr Play" by Carolyn Woodfin
Wood Larsen, Wilton; Second Place:
"Green Valley" by Suzanne A. Crossland,
Wilton; Third Place: "Hoo" by Mark S. Gleason, Westport; Honorable Mentions: "Symetry" by Helene Killion, Wilton; "Sunflower
Glory" by Sally Wiseman, Wilton; "White Roses" by Joanne Roy,
Norwalk, and "Senator Joseph Lieberman" by Nancy Stember,
Westport. STUDENTS' ART SHOWCASED. Over
400 artworks created by Wilton students, Kindergarten through Grade 12, are on
exhibit at the Wilton Library. The Wilton Schools Fine and Performing Arts
(FAPA) Exhibit runs through May 28. A
MUSICAL TRIP THRU WILTON. The
Wilton Singers, joined by the Wilton High School Madrigals, will celebrate
Wilton's big birthday this year in early 19th century American
fashion. "The Wedding of the Centuries" is the theme for this
costumed evening of food, merriment and music-making with Wilton as the
setting. Proceeds from the event go toward college scholarships for graduating
seniors in Wilton High School music programs. There
are 2 performances: Friday, May 10 and Saturday, May 11 at 7:45 PM, Wilton
Episcopal-Presbyterian Complex on New Canaan Road. Tickets are $50 per person.

PLAY'S THE THING. Wilton
Playshop presents "You Can't Take It With You," six nights in May.
The play, written by Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman, is directed by Rob Watts.
Wilton show times on Lover's Lane are Friday and Saturday nights at 8:30 PM on
May 3-4, 10-11, and 17-18. Saturday matinee at 2:30 on May 12. Tickets are $18

miss Pam Pooley's exhibit of photos and paintings at

pastel paintings of Daniel Hauben, a 2001 Weir Farm
Artist-in-Residence, are exhibited in the Weir Farm National Historic Site, 735
Nod Hill Road, Wilton, from May 1 through June 30. Visitor center hours are

Kids, July 4! Want
to paint faces, twist some animal balloons, blow bubbles, or draw on the wall?
Help Wilton kids go artsy with colored chalk and arts & crafts. Childrens' helpers are needed for the Arts Tent, July 4
from 4 to 7 PM. We welcome the talentless. Just have a great time with the kids. In
the morning at 10:30 there will be chalk drawings done by anyone who would
enjoy participating with a theme of the Bicentennial Celebration at the parking
lot of Cider Mill School. Be in the

"Focus
'02", the 5th Annual WAC Photography Show is scheduled for
October at the Wilton Library. The Opening Reception is Friday, October 4, 6 to
8 PM. Drop-off days are September 28 and 29, 1 to 5PM. Want to get involved?

FUND TALENT. Please Support
Arts Scholarships. Now's
the time! Get out your checkbook and help talented Wilton High Schoolers who are gifted in the arts. On June 5, The Wilton
Arts Council 2002 High-School Arts Scholarship Fund hopes to contribute at
least $2000 to scholarships in the following categories: art, photography,
ceramics, music (orchestra, band, and voice). Just send your checks to The
Wilton Arts Council. P.O. Box 7161, Wilton, CT 06897, and note on your check
the art of your choice. Plus, don't forget to order your WAC T-shirts. Only $10
each with the WAC logo in proud purple. Profits go towards scholarships. Be

Celebration Chalk Drawings at Cider Mill School parking lot for families with a
theme of this 4th of July Celebration featuring the Bicentennial
Celebration beginning at 10:30 AM until they on done. Art Tent for children at the 4th of July
Celebration featuring face painting, balloon animals, bubbles and small art
projects for children age 3 to 10. Future PlansThe Photography Show will be
in October at the Wilton Library as well as Halloween window painting. The BIG news is that
the Wilton Woman’s Club has given to us a space 33’ x 11’ in the cafeteria
during their WWC Art, Arts and Crafts Fall Festival at the Wilton High
School. The dates are the 18th
to set up, and the show on the 19th and 20th. Pottery, small sculptures, paintings on
easels, jewelry, small crafts and anything else that you might think of that is
original art will be OK. Please send in
your design for space and a jury will select what will fit in the space provided. October is a wonderful time of the year and
the show itself has made upwards of $60,000 over the last few years. So work on your craft during the summer and
we can sell it at the WWC Craft Show. MOST EXCITING NEWS FOR WACIn November, 2002, we are
planning a wonderful evening of music for the Town of Wilton and neighboring
communities. We will present the New
Haven Symphony Orchestra at the new Performing Arts Center at Wilton High
School. This will be the first full
symphony concert ever presented in the new auditorium. But, we need your help. We will be looking for sponsors, leaders,
ticket sellers, committee people, house arrangers (Ushers, ticket takers, etc.),
publicity, support from all members and especially you to come to the concert. The date is November 16th at 8:00
PM. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear
a magnificent concert. The New Haven
Orchestra under the direction of Jung-Ho Pak, the orchestra’s principle
conductor, will present the following program: q
