"AMERICAN RHAPSODY" DEBUTS!

Don't miss the May 18 premiere performance of Eugenie Rocherolle's composition, "American Rhapsody," for violin, cello and piano, written in commemoration of Wilton's Bicentennial Celebration. Rocherolle, a nationally recognized composer, is a Wilton resident.

The "Rhapsody" will be performed by Richard and Lois Errante and Kyong Hee Cho, who will also perform Beethoven's "Trio in C Minor" and Brahms "Trio in B Major".

The May 18th concert, sponsored by the Wilton Arts Council, begins at 8:00 PM, St. Matthews Church, Wilton.  Admission is free.

SURF IT, LOVE IT, BUY IT!

The very successful art exhibit, "Colors and Curves", recently held at Wilton's Zellner Gallery, is now on cyberview at www.wiltonarts.org.  The site also captures the Gala Artists' Reception attended by the artists and about 150 art fans on April 26. On hand was gallery designer and developer Chip Zellner, who spoke eloquently about the artists and art exhibited.

Eight paintings received awards in The Wilton Art Council's 4th Annual Art Exhibition: Best of Show: "Mudge Pond, Sharon, CT" by Jen Shelley, Wilton; First Place: "Satyr Play" by Carolyn Woodfin Wood Larsen, Wilton; Second Place: "Green Valley" by Suzanne A. Crossland, Wilton; Third Place: "Hoo" by Mark S. Gleason, Westport; Honorable Mentions: "Symetry" by Helene Killion, Wilton; "Sunflower Glory" by Sally Wiseman, Wilton; "White Roses" by Joanne Roy, Norwalk, and "Senator Joseph Lieberman" by Nancy Stember, Westport.

The Wilton Singers, joined by the Wilton High School Madrigals, will celebrate Wilton's big birthday this year in early 19th century American fashion. "The Wedding of the Centuries" is the theme for this costumed evening of food, merriment and music-making with Wilton as the setting. Proceeds from the event go toward college scholarships for graduating seniors in Wilton High School music programs.

There are 2 performances: Friday, May 10 and Saturday, May 11 at 7:45 PM, Wilton Episcopal-Presbyterian Complex on New Canaan Road. Tickets are $50 per person. Reservations (203) 762-2333.

Future Plans

The Photography Show will be in October at the Wilton Library as well as Halloween window painting.

The BIG news is that the Wilton Woman’s Club has given to us a space 33’ x 11’ in the cafeteria during their WWC Art, Arts and Crafts Fall Festival at the Wilton High School.  The dates are the 18th to set up, and the show on the 19th and 20th.  Pottery, small sculptures, paintings on easels, jewelry, small crafts and anything else that you might think of that is original art will be OK.  Please send in your design for space and a jury will select what will fit in the space provided.  October is a wonderful time of the year and the show itself has made upwards of $60,000 over the last few years.  So work on your craft during the summer and we can sell it at the WWC Craft Show.

MOST EXCITING NEWS FOR WAC

In November, 2002, we are planning a wonderful evening of music for the Town of Wilton and neighboring communities.  We will present the New Haven Symphony Orchestra at the new Performing Arts Center at Wilton High School.  This will be the first full symphony concert ever presented in the new auditorium.  But, we need your help.  We will be looking for sponsors, leaders, ticket sellers, committee people, house arrangers (Ushers, ticket takers, etc.), publicity, support from all members and especially you to come to the concert.  The date is November 16th at 8:00 PM.  Don’t miss this opportunity to hear a magnificent concert.  The New Haven Orchestra under the direction of Jung-Ho Pak, the orchestra’s principle conductor, will present the following program:

q      Beethoven Overture to Egmont,

q      Mozart Sinfonia Concertante for oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn and orchestra

q      Brahms Symphony No. 2.

An amazing program!!!

Please let us know if you have a showing, a show, an exhibit so we can let others know about it too.  You are important to us.  Call Anne at 762-0033.
