HERE AND NOW

ART EXHIBITS

Photography by Alex von Kleydorff will be on display for the month of September at TOM-E-TOES Pizza & Restaurant. As a photojournalist, Alex has been affiliated with numerous publications in the region. He has received awards from the National Photographers Association and the Society of Professional Journalists. The opening reception will be held on Tuesday, September 4, 2001 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the restaurant. Please join us.

The photography exhibit of Wilton scenes, sunsets, flowers, and nature scenes of all seasons by former Wilton resident, Anne Holland, will continue at TOM-E-TOES through August 31, 2001.

The monthly exhibits will continue in October with paintings of Angelo Perrone. The opening reception will be held on Tuesday, October 2, 2001 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and will also include a drawing for two of Angelo's paintings (see "Membership Drive" on the back page of this newsletter).

Karen Weissman will be displaying her Polaroid transfers and pastels during November 2001, and watercolorist, Sandra Bacher will be featured in December 2001.

THEATER SCENES

"1776" AUDITIONS

To kickoff Wilton's bicentennial, the musical "1776" is slated for The Wilton Playshop's fall production in November 2001. They are seeking 17 men and 2 women for the cast of "1776," which will run weekends during the month of November 2001. Auditions are set for September 4-5, 2001, at 7:30 PM at the Playshop on Lover's Lane. A drama, "Our Town," and a spirited comedy, "You Can't Take It With You," are planned for the Playshop's winter and spring presentations, respectively. UPCOMING EVENTS

PATIO ART SHOW

Artists are invited to exhibit their paintings at a Patio Art Show on Saturday, September 15, 2001, from 10:00 AM to 2:30 PM at TOM-E-TOES Pizza & Restaurant. In the event of a rainy day, the exhibit will be held the following Saturday (September 22). Artists are responsible for providing easels or methods of displaying their art, and they are requested to monitor (stay with) their paintings for the duration of the show. To sign up to exhibit, please contact Jo-Ann Loparco, president of the restaurant, at 834-0733.

FOCUS '01

Calling all photographers! The Council's 4th annual photography show, open to all Fairfield County residents (professional, amateur and student photographers), is set for September 29-October 30, 2001 at the Wilton Library. Daryl Hawk and Roger Salls will judge the show. In addition to an award for Best of Show, cash awards will be presented in four categories: students, amateur, professional and Wilton scenes. An opening reception will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2001 from 6:00-8:00 PM at the Wilton Library.

Entry forms will be mailed to all Council members and those who entered the show last year. Entry forms also will be available at the Wilton Library and various sponsors and photography shops in and around Wilton beginning September 10, 2001. All photographs must be framed and wired for hanging (i.e., the frame must have a piece of wire that runs from one side of the frame to the other; frames with center clips will not be accepted). Keeler Hardware will have a table set up in their store with tools on Saturday, September 22, 2001 for you to frame any last minute photos. Of course, picture wire may be purchased there. Drop-off dates: Saturday, September 22, 2001
(2:00 PM-5:00 PM) and Sunday, September 23, 2001 (2:00 PM-5:00 PM).

Opening reception: Saturday, September 29, 2001 (6:00 PM-8:00 PM)

Pick-up date: Wednesday, October 31, 2001 (3:00-7:00 PM).

WANTED: Volunteers to assist in the receiving and pick-up of entries. Please call Midge de Toledo at 761-1159, if you are able to assist on one of the dates.

FANTASTIC FLUTE FANTASIES

The Council's first community music program of the year is slated for October 9, 2001, from 7:30-9:00 PM at the Wilton Library. Moira Craw will demonstrate and discuss the treatment for the solo flute by composers from the Baroque period through modern times.

Council meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the month at the Wilton Library (unless otherwise noted in the newsletter), beginning at 7:30 PM.

STORAGE SPACE NEEDED

A temporary home is immediately needed to store the Council's panels for the geodesic dome to be reconstructed during the Bicentennial and several of the Council's signs. A space of 3' X 5' X 5' is required. Please call John Koster at 762-8763.

POTTERY SHOW CHAIR WANTED

Our 2nd annual pottery show was a huge success and we would like to continue this event in the future. Due to the pending move of our very talented and organized chair for the first two events, Sarah Koster, we are currently seeking a chair for the 2002 event. MEMBERSHIP DRIVE

Attention all current and prospective members: anyone, who becomes a member of the Wilton Arts Council between January 1, 2001 and October 1, 2001, will be eligible to win a 20" by 24" acrylic painting. There will be two drawings one for Summer Sunset and the other for Winter Pond, by artist Angelo Perrone. They are each valued at $600. Current members are eligible for the drawing. The drawing will take place at the opening reception for Angelo's exhibit at TOM-E-TOES Pizza & Restaurant on Tuesday, October 2, 2001 (see the first page of this newsletter).

If you are not already a member, please join the Council today. And by all means, please invite a friend to join, too. Your support provides needed funding for the many Council activities. Help keep the arts alive in Wilton!!

WAC MEMBERS SPOTLIGHT

A number of works by M. Chapin de Toledo is on display through the end of August-"Cityscape," a sculpture, may be seen at the Wilton Library as part of the summer exhibit of Wilton artists, an acrylic painting of a snow scene of Wilton is on display at the Silvermine Gallery in New Canaan and one of the Connecticut River appears at the Stamford Art Association.
