An
exhibit of mixed media, pastels and Polaroid transfers by Karen Weissman
will be on display for the month of November at TOM-E-TOES Pizza &
Restaurant. As a college student, Karen
found magic and mystery in art classes.
Later, as an art teacher, she had the perfect rationale for continued
exploration in many media. The opening
reception will be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2001 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM in
the restaurant. Please join us.
Paintings
of Angelo Perrone will continue at TOM-E-TOES through October 31,
2001. An unexpected black-out occurred
during Angelo’s opening reception; however, the drawings for two of Angelo’s
paintings in connection with the Membership Drive were held and we are pleased
to announce the winners, Amy Kahn Russell and Shirley Lewis. Many thanks to Angelo for his generosity.
Watercolorist
and teacher, Sandra Bacher will be featured in the December 2001
exhibit at TOM-E-TOES. Please be sure to
mark you calendar for the opening reception on Tuesday, December 4, 2001.
Each
month a different artist is featured at TOM-E-TOES. If you are a member in good standing and
would like to show your art work at the restaurant during 2002, please contact
Shirley Lewis at
762-5727.

Congratulations
to all the entrants on making the 4th Annual Photography Show another
photographic wonder! We know that everyone
made the jobs of Focus ’01 judges, Daryl Hawk of Wilton and Roger Salls of
Stratford, just a little more difficult.
We think all the entries were winners, but alas there were only so many
awards that could be given out. Kudos to
Ed MacEwan and his helpers for yet another terrific job hanging all the
photographs, to Midge de Toledo, who did a fabulous job organizing a great crew
to receive the photos, to the crew who successfully kept things organized in a
very small space, and to TOM-E-TOES and various Council members who made sure
there were sufficient refreshments for the reception.
Many,
many thanks also to this year’s sponsors, who provided financial support and
services: Artisan Photographic
Laboratory, Beardsley Fine Framing, CamerArts, Keeler True Value Hardware, KEW
Professional Photo, Photo Network, Prosperous Printing LLC, Rapid Photo, River
Road Gallery and Wilton Art Gallery & Framing Center; and to our media
sponsors: The Hour, The Sunday Hour and
The Wilton Villager.
Key date to remember if you entered the show: the bewitching hour is here—Pick-up date: Wednesday, October 31, 2001 (3:00—7:00 PM).
On Saturday, October 13, 2001, the Council teamed up with the Wilton Woman’s Club to offer the children in the 4th, 5th and 6th grades the opportunity to be creative by holding the 3rd Annual Halloween Window Painting contest. Thirty boys and girls painted Halloween scenes on the windows of local participating businesses for the community to enjoy.
Ribbons and certificates were awarded to every participant . Congratulations to each of these young painters on a job well done. Photos of the artists and their paintings can be seen on the Council’s web site (www.wiltonarts.org). Special thanks goes to the judges for the event—Eileen Ferro, representing the Wilton Women’s Club, and Florence Price, representing the Council and the Wilton Chamber of Commerce, and to Anne Richards who handled the publicity, organizing and judging.
Many thanks to each of the businesses for providing their window space. They include: Village Market, Wilton Library, Wallflowers, Village Luncheonette and The Village Barbershop, Wilton Cleaners, CT Trading Company, The Toy Chest, Country Living, Raveis Real Estate, The Photo Shop, and Stewart Flowers. Please stroll around town and see the fine paintings the boys and girls did at these locations.
Three
artists took advantage of a beautiful day for the Patio Art Show on
Saturday, September 15, 2001 at TOM-E-TOES Pizza & Restaurant. Anne Holland displayed her
photography, Joseph Izzillo showed his
western paintings and Pam Pooley exhibited her hand-tinted
photographs. Many thanks to Jo-Ann
Loparco, president of the restaurant, for the opportunity.
Moira Craw delighted the
audience at the Council’s first community music program of the year on October
9, 2001, at the Wilton Library, with her discussion and demonstration of the
treatment for the solo flute by composers from the Baroque period through
modern times. It was truly an enjoyable
and educational evening. Many, many
thanks to Moira.

Help us raise funds for the 2002 high school arts scholarships. Last year we gave over $1,200 in scholarships and we hope to increase that amount this year to over $1,500. Here’s an easy, new way to help us—the Wilton Bank has sent to many of its customers, a Customer Satisfaction Survey. Each person who completes the survey has a choice of a local non-profit organization that will receive a donation from the Wilton Bank in the amount of $2.00 per survey. If you have received it, please consider directing your $2.00 donation to the Wilton Arts Council. All the money that is raised this way will be added to the Council’s scholarship fund.
If
you are not already a member, please join us.
And by all means, please invite a friend to join, too. Your support provides needed funding for the
many Council activities. Help keep the
arts alive in Wilton!!
