Halloween Picture Painting, October 14, 2002
After two rainy day postponements, the 4th Annual Halloween Window Painting Contest, sponsored by the Wilton Arts Council, finally happened on Monday, October 14th, a cool, crisp autumn day, ideal for just such an activity. Pictures appear on the Wilton Arts Council’s website, www.wiltonarts.org.

We are very appreciative of the many shops, businesses, stores and the Wilton Library for being so generous with the use of their windows. The stores that participated were: The Stop and Shop, M. Fraser Hair Salon, Arena Hair Stylists, Village Luncheonette, WallFlowers Florist, Connecticut Trading Company, Everything Personalized, Go Get Dressed, William Raveis Real Estate, The Toy Chest, First Union, Physical Integrity, and The Beauty Boutique. Also a business that participated is Merrill Lynch who will be hosting the Halloween Walk on Halloween, October 31st from 3 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. Many of the above listed businesses and stores will also be part of the Halloween Walk. All businesses that have big orange pumpkin signs in their windows, identify those participating in the Halloween Walk.

Certificates of Achievement were given to all 63 very fine young artists. Those in 4th and 5th grades who won awards were: 1st place Jessica Mathis, 2nd place Jessica Lempit, 3rd place Gillian Lupinski and Jackie Saltarelli with Honorable Mentions going to Olivia Herlyn; Connie, Lexie, Kelly and Katie Sullivan; Allie Neal; Christine Hubli and Lauren Cornish.

In 6th, 7th and 8th grades the winners were: 1st place Amy Sullivan and Hayden Parker, 2nd place Jeff Noonan and Kelsey Ettinger, 3rd place Kelsey Durels with Honorable Mentions going to Carly Shields and Justine Neubarth; and Lauren Bauman and Jenna Gunnell.

Many thanks go to the businesses who so willingly offer their windows for this annual event. Each year the number of students increases and this year was no exception with over 60 participants and, also, the art keeps getting better. The volunteers from the Wilton Arts Council were astonished at the creativity of all the artists. The Wilton School system should be mighty proud of their teachers who promote the arts at our five schools. The works of art will be available for all to view throughout the month of October. So take a stroll from the Piersall Building down to the Executive Campus shops and see the extraordinary work these children have produced. You will be amazed to see the fine quality.

Many thanks also goes to the many volunteers who helped out during the day to make the day go efficiently. Those volunteers included: Sharrie Alechman, Shirley Lewis and her daughter Christine Lewis Radu, and Florence Price. We thank you ladies so much for all you did to make this event the success that it was.

The Wilton Arts Council is very proud to be sponsor of this event each year and will be sponsoring it again next year during the Columbus Day weekend. We hope that next year the weather will be more cooperative and we will not have the multiple problems associated with postponing an event. Thanks to all the participants and their parents, the businesses and the volunteers for their adaptability to the weather.
